Product Description

Niton XL5 XRF Analysis for Alloy ID and Screening

The Thermo Scientific Niton XL5 is a handheld XRF analyzer for fast elemental analysis where material mix-ups, unknown alloys, coating questions, or screening requirements can slow inspection work. X-ray fluorescence measurement provides on-the-spot chemistry and grade information for alloy identification, positive material identification, coatings analysis, soil screening, and consumer goods screening across field, plant, inspection, and quality-control workflows.

X-Ray Fluorescence Measurement with Handheld Analysis

  • The 5W x-ray tube excites the sample surface to generate a fluorescence response for elemental determination.
  • Dynamic current adjustment supports measurement sensitivity across varied sample materials.
  • Real-time results provide direct chemistry and grade feedback during handheld analysis.
  • Integrated micro and macro cameras support sample targeting and measurement-location documentation.
  • Built-in system check verifies analyzer readiness before measurement activity.

Elemental Analysis Range and System Capabilities

  • Analytical range covers Mg-U with ultra-low light element detection.
  • Ag anode x-ray tube is rated 6-50kV, 0-500uA, 5W max.
  • Proprietary large area drift detector supports portable XRF elemental analysis.
  • Standard 8mm collimation is specified, with optional 3mm small-spot collimation.
  • WiFi and USB data transfer support movement of readings into reporting and PC workflows.

Alloy, PMI, Coatings, and Screening Applications

  • Supports alloy identification and positive material identification for metals verification.
  • Supports coating and plating assessment, geochemical analysis, and polluted soil screening.
  • Supports hazardous substance screening workflows for consumer goods and RoHS-oriented review.

General Metals, Alloy Libraries, and Screening Configuration

  • General Metals configuration supports alloy grade identification and chemistry determination for metal analysis workflows.
  • XL5 Alloy Library resources include SAE, AISI, ASTM, AA, DIN, and GB standards.
  • XL5 LM Quick Sort Library supports light-metal alloy sorting reference workflows.
  • Consumer Goods, Detection, and RoHS threshold sets support screening-oriented comparison workflows.
